Our Ford Transit 148” Extended kit takes everything we’ve learned from the standard 148” and turns it up a notch. By increasing the usable kit length from 132” to 160”, we’ve unlocked a completely different level of comfort and functionality—without compromising the clean, efficient layout VanLab is known for.

The biggest transformation is in the sleeping space. With the added length, we’ve moved from an east-west bed to a full north-south layout, giving you our largest cargo van bed yet (75" x 68"). That means more room to stretch out, no need for flares, and a far more natural sleeping position.

That extra space doesn’t stop at the bed. We’ve extended the kitchen into our largest configuration, adding an additional full-height cupboard and increasing total kitchen storage to 19ft³. With room for a 65L fridge, 12 gallons of water, and dedicated storage for all your essentials, this is a kitchen designed for longer trips and real everyday use.
The layout still centers around a spacious raised bed and garage combination, with 86ft³ of storage underneath, including 9 cubbies and a large central area for bulky gear like bikes. A pass-through tunnel connects the garage to the front living space, making it easy to store and access longer items.

Inside, the living area remains flexible and functional. Our French-Cleat table system allows you to quickly adapt the space for working, dining, or relaxing, while the bench seat doubles as both seating and additional storage for your electrical system.
As with all VanLab kits, this design is engineered for fast DIY installation using precision 3D scans and parametric design. Every component is clearly labeled and built around Poka-Yoke principles, ensuring a simple, intuitive build process.
Constructed from premium 9-ply ½” Baltic Birch plywood, this is our most spacious, most capable Transit kit—built for those who want it all.

ELECTRICS (OPTIONAL)

The VanLab Integrated Wiring Loom (Wiring Harness) is everything you need to automatically charge your leisure battery (charge-while-you-drive) and power your fridge, water pump, roof air fan, charge your phone and monitor your battery health.

Our integrated wiring loom is compatible with pre-cut holes in our cabinetry kits. The wiring loom is compatible with lead acid & lithium ion batteries (DC/DC charger needed). It is compatible with external power packs and solar charging (DC/DC charger needed).

The wiring loom includes

Power supply to fridge, water pump and roof air fan
2 x Double USB Chargers (USB and USB C)
Leisure Battery and Start Battery Voltage readouts
All switches, fuses, fuse board and circuit breakers for protection
Large battery isolator switch
Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) for automatic charge-while-you-drive
All wires are labelled and factory fitted with the required connectors.

The wiring loom does not include the leisure battery, DC/DC charger or inverter.

What’s the main difference between the Transit 148” and the 148” Extended kit?

The Ford Transit 148” Extended gives you significantly more usable interior length—160” vs 132” in the standard Ford Transit 148”. This extra space allows for a maximised layout, including a larger bed, expanded kitchen, and more overall storage.

Why does the Extended version use a north-south bed instead of east-west?

The added length of the extended van allows us to switch to a north-south bed (75" x 68"), which is both longer and more comfortable for most people. Unlike the standard 148”, you don’t need flares to sleep comfortably, and you gain a more natural sleeping orientation with easier access in and out of bed.

How much bigger is the kitchen in the Extended version?

The Extended kit features our largest kitchen layout, increasing storage to 19ft³ and adding an extra full-height cupboard compared to the standard 148”. This gives you more room for food, gear, and longer-term travel essentials, making it a great option for extended trips or full-time vanlife.
